My recent blog on Move-On's anti-liquid coal campaign has been "rebuked"!...THANKS to Green Colonies member JAPHET~who is obviously more familiar with the Liquid Coal Campaign than I (or Move On for that matter) and the advantages to our search for cleaner energy.

I'd like to reference this instance as one of the Key reasons the Green Colonies Community is being created...and why I try to continue to grow the membership through reaching out to the Leaders in the Green Industry and encouraging them to join!

Debate and collaboration stem the flowering of solutions efficiently and effectively.  As more and more ECO-leaders come aboard...the Richer, more valid, and more usuable the content will become.

Collaboration through discovery, event planning, and project development will ensure that the Green Revolution is well on its way!  In Green Colonies, discussion, debate, and ultimatley Collaboration, set the stage for ACTION!

Below is a blog I wrote last week before I had heard about the advantage liquid coal MAY BRING...:

Help to stop the big coal give away

Hi,

Congress could vote in the next fews weeks on a bill that would double our greenhouse gas emissions from planes and cars. It sounds crazy, but this is exactly what will happen if a current plan to use "liquid coal" passes. Coal is the dirtiest of fossil fuels and we have a serious global warming problem.

I signed a petition urging Congress to vote no on tax breaks and subsidies on coal. Can you join me at the link below?

Thanks!

  Get your GREEN DREAM JOB

This is not another generic “How to Write the Resume for Success” or “Sell Yourself” self-help article. I am simply going to let you in on a happenin’ Grassroots networking opportunity that has likely already sprouted up in your neck of the woods.  It will have you spreading the GOOD GREEN WORD about the authenticity and the inevitable effectiveness of this unique Social gathering.

ENTER: Greendrinks / VENUE: Your local pub, Yoga Studio, or even Art Museum / SPOTLIGHT: Eco-Activists, Professionals, Students, and “HIP-pies”; such as- Green Building Consultants and Design Firms, Organic Farmers, Owners of Eco-conscious PR firms and Fair Trade Chocolate Companies, Bio-Diesel Retailers and Solar Power Engineers, students of Sustainable Economics and Urban Planning….. Your chance to get face-to-face and celebrate with people who you want to work for –or probably will work with- in the near future!

One Tuesday a Month, 6-ish p.m.: Beer and Wine are free-flowing, smiles light up the room, the food table is loaded w/ local goodies, name tags speak “open door”, and you have one mission….Drink, Eat, Shake hands, and Share your ECO-Passion with other GREENDRINKERS.

Last Tuesday I strolled into Evo, a Surf/ Skate/ Snowboard Retailer and Gallery in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.   As one of the hosts of the Seattle Greendrinks that month, Evo opened up its Warehouse-size shop to about 500 Green Industry Players and wanna-be eco-activists—potentially, like yourself. Everyone there wants to connect to others that are just as excited about the Green Revolution! Thus, you’re bound to enter into the inner circles of Eco-Blissdom and fall ‘in love’ with the vibe of the social Eco-scene. Greendrinks has what it takes to keep people coming back for more- and telling their friends who have the same interest in Green about it! So, the party grows and the Dream Green job network explodes with opportunity!

Now go Network and connect with those who share your interest in re-constructing the Conventional business models to reflect this era of Green. Green is the place to be and you want a part of it not JUST because it is thriving, but because, DEEP DOWN, you know the Green Industry is making this world a better place to live for you today and for your kids in the future.—It’s only Natural to wanna be a part of that!

Start a Greendrinks in your town, city, or country….visit: http://greendrinks.org or if you’re in Seattle find a Greendrinks celebration at: www.seattlegreendrinks.org Tell Gabriel that Maggie sent ya! CHEERS!

Interest-based Social Networking is the way you captivate the hearts and minds of your future employers, Green Industry mates, friends and neighbors.  I have been to GREENDRINKS- SEATTLE four times now and I have witnessed its exponential growth and been a beneficiary of its authenticity. Authenticity is a blend of confidence, truth, influence, leadership, passion and cannot be faked.  Greendrinks arose from peoples’ authentic call to others in their community for a revolution in the way we carry out our day to day activities- from the morning cup ‘o joe , to the afternoon business lunch, ending in the last bulb switched off.   It all starts with caring and then sharing and this is where the job opportunity appears and my lesson is taught. –Bless, Maggie

YEA!!! 44% of you that voted (total votes:16) said that You HAVE ALREADY CHANGED TO COMPACT FLOURESCENT LIGHTBULBS!!!  Hey ...I'm stoked...it's a great start!  This means that 7 people understand that switching out their Incandescent lightbulbs to Compact Flourescent bulbs:

  • Use at least 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and last up to 10 times longer.
  • Save $30 or more in energy costs over each bulb’s lifetime
  • Generate 70 percent less heat, so they’re safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.
  • In addition to other quality requirements, must turn on instantly, produce no sound, and fall within a warm color range or be otherwise labeled as providing cooler color tones.
  • Are available in different sizes and shapes to fit in almost any fixture, for indoors and outdoors.
Information sourced from ENERGY STAR :

BUT WAIT......I was shocked to see that 25% of you did not know WHAT COMPACT FLOURESCENT BULBS are.  So here's the downlow on this Highly efficient and Green-'leaning' energy source.:
CFL stands for compact fluorescent lamp, and it is a small fluorescent light bulb that uses at least 2/3 less energy than a traditional incandescent bulb and can be screwed into a regular light socket. Don’t let the fact that it is fluorescent turn you off! ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs must pass extensive testing to ensure they produce only the highest quality light. Qualified bulbs labeled “warm white” or “soft white” produce light like typical incandescent light bulbs. CFLs that have a cooler color (similar to bright white incandescent bulbs) are usually labeled “bright white” or “daylight” on the product packaging.
So change out a bulb....It's easy they can be found mostly anywhere from your LOCAL HARDWARE Store and perhaps even a drug store ...if you can't find them at your local ma and pop shop tell them to bring them into their inventory

If you must go elsewhere...try Home Depot, Target, or even Walmart...(yeah..they're even carrying organics now!)

THERE....don't you feel good to know that taking ECO- action can be as simple as CHANGING A LIGHTBULB!

CHEERS!,

Nearly 1,000 diplomats from around the world are meeting in Bonn Germany this week to draft a new global treaty to control greenhouse gases to replace the Kyoto Protocal which expires in 2012. The conference began on Monday, just days after the U.N.-sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued its third major report on global warming. Earlier this year the panel declared that the warming of the earth's climate system in unequivocal and attributable to human activities. On Friday the group of 2,000 scientists said the means and technology to prevent global warming exist but that citizens of the world and governments must quickly take action.

Building on the momentum of Step it Up series, Hilltrip is happy to invite the community to come to the sixth and final Step it Up event at MAXX FISH, nicely coordinated to happen on Earth Day. Celebrated every April 22, Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide. First launched as an environmental awareness event in the United States in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated as the birth of the environmental movement and is the only event celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities.

For Step it Up no6, Hilltrip is presenting an Expression Session including Kostaman & The Vibrations opening at 7pm sharp, followed by a slate of local artists including Angie Nolan with poems, MollyFi with spoken words, Daniel Poisson and Chris Dyer with visual art, Chili Thom & Feet Banks with “High in the Mountain”, Animal Nation with a few raps, John Parris with a few mixes and more.

At 10pm, the winners for the Earth Raffle will be draw. Everybody attending the Expression Session will have a chance to enter the raffle to win one of the grand prizes by writing their name at the back of a Step it Up flyer and dropping it off at the Surfrider table during the session. All the ballots collected trough the whole series will be included in the raffle, so people who entered at previous Step it Up sessions will have their chances to win. Prizes include a 3-day Surf Experience Expedition sponsored by Deep Snow & Surf Experience, an Option snowboard, a pair of SPY goggle, O’Neill goodies among other.

After 10pm, Rainbo and Lexi Moon will perform hula hoops go-go dances to the sound of DJ Jamie Vale.

Also on the sensory extravaganza menu is Martinis at Midnight offering the ‘Oxymoron’ martini, a martini with a healthy twist containing FrequenSea, a unique ‘Superfood’ discovery containing all of Mother Nature’s essential nutrients. This martini has so much good stuff in it that it will relieve all the guilt of consuming alcohol.

“There are so many good messages from artistic expressions; and art is also a powerful catalyst for change. This event is going to be Hilltrip’s 3rd Earth Day event in Whistler and I hope to inspire people to be part of the solutions and care for our planet thought different art forms” says Marie Fortin, event organizer. “April 22 is the last day of the TWSSF, so this last Step it Up event will be like a cleansing evening for the body and the soul and a great way to close the festival and the series in beauty.”

Admission is only $10 and includes a free Cool Tag from Clif Bar and a beer from Whistler Brewing Company. A Cool Tag™ is a renewable wind energy credit that will keep an estimated 300 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) — the main contributor to global warming — out of the air. That’s roughly the same as neutralizing the global warming emissions generated from traveling 300 miles (more than 480 kms) in the average car.

As with every Step it Up event, proceed will support the Snowrider Project, a campaign of the Surfrider Foundation, which aims to bring greater understanding of the hydrological cycle and foster a sense of stewardship towards alpine and valley watersheds. One major initiative for Snowrider is organizing local mountain clean-ups in spring after the snow melts to pick up garbage haphazardly littered during the season by skiers and boarders.

Thanks to Clif Bar, Whistler Brewing Company, O’Neill, Option Snowboards, Spy. Deep Snow & Surf Experience and Maxx Fish for their support on the Step it Up series.

Wednesday, April 11, Seattle....um...Cloudy...but potential for sunshine...

For those of you have spent much time at the beach you certainly can relate to the affects the sand, sun, and salt air have on your mood.  It's immediate, intense, and Soulful!

In Southern California I first learned about the The Surfrider Foundation and its mission to empower people to take action to clean up the beaches and oceans.

"The Surfrider Foundation's greatest strength is our grassroots, community-based focus and our ability to act as local activists for the protection of the coast......"

Whether your lifestyle of choice includes the surf, mountains, or simply enthusiasm for natural landscapes...you have, at one time or many, CONNECTED to the Earth and become unbound by time, place, and status.  Your SOUL was filled with contentment.

Although I no longer live on the warm beaches of California...i am able to find the soul that the ocean has lent to me by journeying into the mountains as well as by strolling down my street at sunset.  I simply choose to remember my connection to it and it rushes over me....an endless humming of waves , the warmth of sand against my sun-kissed skin, and fresh salt air.

Just as I have discovered, you may find that foundations like Surfrider are popular because they are authentically based in a LIFE STYLE....and like any lifestyle....it takes soul to find authenticity and action to develop style....SOAK...RINSE...REPEAT.

The Surfrider Foundation are a source for you to go to when you find that you may need to find a bit of soul or perhaps you need to step up the ACTION.  Many other foundations provide this and I will touch on them throughout the FOUNDATION series: “From snow to the oceans and back again…”
The Surfrider Foundation emcompasses a variety of ACTION programs with which you can become a part of...such as the Snowrider Project.

"While the Snowrider Project was initially conceived to give snowboarders and skiers a vehicle for environmental activism, the range of participants and activists has expanded to include kayakers, canoeists, back-country adventurers and others who appreciate the sanctity of a clean, connected system." (Surfrider Foundation)

Whistler Skateboar Association and the Longhorn present to
you a Skateboard Rail jam Contest/ Fundraiser.

On Thursday, September 28, 2006, The Whistler Skateboard Association will be holding a fundraiser event at the Longhorn Saloon in Whistler. We will be setting up scaffolding on the patio and creating a street-style rail/ledge setup where skaters will be able to perform tricks on the obstacles and down the stairs. There will be two hours where the ramp is open for the public to have fun on (5pm to 7pm), and then in the evening (7pm to 9pm) we will be hosting a full-on competition where skaters will be competing for cash and prizes. As well, there will be live music and other stuff going on got anyone who comes to hang out and support the Whistler Skateboard Association, a non-profit community driven group formed to help take care of some of the many skateboard related issues in Whistler, especially the underground skatepark in Creekside. After the competition, there will be the video premiere of The Peanut Gallery, a locally produced skateboard film, and then the party will continue all night. This event will go on rain or shine, we have planned for tents and coverings for the ramps and of course, everyone can hang out inside,  listen to live music and, of course, have a great time.

We will be having three main categories of first-place prizes, with a $200 cash prize given to the skater who performs the best trick on the rail, on the ledges, and down the set of stairs, each. In addition to the cash prizes, we will be giving away lots of gear to the skaters for second and third places, as well as give-aways.. As well, there will be tons of shwag give-aways for the crowd, as well as raffles for some higher ticket items such as complete skateboards from the local shops.

Some of the supporters of this event are Longhorn Saloon, UnderExposed Media Group, Nomis Clothing, Westbeach the shop, Evolution, Katmandu, Red Bull, Gauge Clothing, SkateboardVillage.com and Ogio Bags.

My Blog: Numero Uno
By: heart_core

#1

Wow, so the brand spanking new snowboard.com is here eh? That's some exciting beep right there. And in addition theres now this crazy 'blog' thing...which im not sure what to do except write everything my brain tells me to.... I guess i speak of my life, feelings, emotions, special events, friends and family...etc etc... In that case let's begin...

First i must begin by explaining how EXTREMELY fun movie cherades is (for those who dont know what cherades is...you deserve to be smacked across the head, dipped in a pool of boiling butter and frozen solid in a block of frozen jello). Of course tonight myself and my friends played for roughly....20 hours. Fun? Yes. Exaggerated? Maybe. By far the hardest movie title was...and this is a good one so remember it kiddies..CONSTANTINE! ya, crazy, hard, i know... i had to flippin guess it >_<

Not too sure how long these things should be.. im not a blog kind of person but i will attempt to be JUST FOR MY FANS! ^_^ However, as i have said many times... i refuse to join myspace.com and will live happily in the new snowboard community with rainbows, unicorns and rib eating contests.

Anyways, before you become extremely bored from my rambling on about nothing, i will leave you to read the blogs of other snowboarders just like me (but far worse at snowboarding). But before i leave i must give some sort of 'wisdom' because trust me, im packed full of it. Thus, i have gathered up a rather interesting thought from the random psycho mind of Katelyn and here it is...

Imagine that what we thought was reality, was just a dream... and that when we fall asleep and dream... we're really just back in our reality...

...Think About It...
