Gun That Killed Goldsboro Boy Was Stolen Posted:

Jul. 24, 2007

Goldsboro — Police on Tuesday said the handgun involved in the accidental shooting death of an 8-year-old boy last week was reported stolen a year ago. Andre Wilder and his 12-year-old brother found the .45-caliber gun in the woods near their home, police said. Andre was playing with it at the family's home on July 17, and the gun went off as his brother tried to take it away from him for his own protection, police said. Andre died later at Wayne Memorial Hospital from a single gunshot to his face. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced the gun to its former owner, who had reported last year that it was stolen from a vehicle parked outside a Wal-Mart in Goldsboro. Police said they haven't matched the gun to any crimes. Shenita Wilder-Dancy, the boys' mother, said people have been using the area around her rural home as a dumping ground. She said she believes Andre found the gun and thought it was a toy. No charges are expected to be filed in the case, police said.

So glad to see that there is a green colony now!! :)
Here in Nicaragua with so much of the coastal land in foreign hands and the prospects of rampant construction just around the corner it has never been a better time to influence the
way things are to be done.  At www.nicageeks.com we are in a prime position to do that as part of our business involves the process of selling and marketing wind and solar powered systems with the future goal of positioning ourselves as the green consultants to the local land developers and homebuilders. There is so much to do in this country to help shape its future for its people and its environment. I am excited to be a part of that and feel optimistic about the possibilities that lie before me down here!

I found this on YouTube and one comment that was made surprised me.... pdxjules (1 month ago) marked as spam Solar Towers have already been built, but not this same design...they don't appear as High Tech. One in Isreal, another in Spain. The MegaWattage is great! Imagine large wind turbines all along the inside of that tall tower. It's not for every location, but for Deserts with High Powered Grid access, the concept is worthy. Better than investing in Coal, Gas fired, large hydro, or Nuclear. Should last a long time too. (The visitor features are quite optional, and a little distracting, IMO) WHY HAVE WE NOT MADE ADVANCES ON THIS?!!!!

What is Green Power?
The term "green power" generally refers to electricity supplied in whole or in part from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, geothermal, hydropower, and various forms of biomass. Increasingly, electricity customers are being given electricity supply options, either as retail power markets open to competition or when their regulated utilities develop green pricing programs. More than 50% of retail customers in the United States now have an option of purchasing a green power product directly from their electricity supplier. In addition, consumers can support renewable energy development through the purchase of green energy certificates.

Why Buy Green Power?
By choosing to purchase a green power product, you can support increased development of renewable energy sources, which can reduce the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Greater reliance on renewable sources also provides economic benefits and can improve our national energy security.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory's web site provides an additional discussion of the benefits of renewable energy.

How Do I Buy Green Power?
If retail electricity competition is allowed in your state, you may be able to purchase a green power product from an alternative electricity supplier. Some states have already implemented electricity competition. Check the Status of State Electric Industry Restructuring Activity (PDF 2.1 MB) map, prepared by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, to see if your state has passed an electricity competition law.

Even if your state is not implementing electricity market competition, you may still be able to purchase green power through your regulated utility. More than 600 regulated utilities spanning more than 30 states offer "green pricing" programs (see our map of green pricing programs). The term green pricing refers to an optional utility service that allows customers to support a greater level of utility investment in renewable energy by paying a premium on their electric bill to cover any above-market costs of acquiring renewable energy resources.

Finally, whether or not you have access to green power through your utility or a competitive electricity marketer, you can purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs). RECs (also known as green tags, green energy certificates, or tradable renewable certificates) represent the environmental attributes of power generated from renewable electric plants. A variety of organizations offer RECs separate from electricity service, that is, you need not switch from your current electricity supplier in order to purchase these certificates.

To find out what green power options are available in your state, please visit our Can I Buy Green Power in My State? page, where you can click on your state to view available green power products.

For more information on buying green power, see: Guide to Purchasing Green Power (PDF 1 MB). Download Adobe Reader

Green Power Evaluation and Certification
How can you be sure that your green power purchase will benefit the environment? For more information, see our Consumer Protection page.

Green-e is a voluntary certification and verification program for wholesale, retail, and commercial electricity products, tradable renewable certificates (TRCs) and utility green pricing programs in the U.S. Green-e certifies about 100 retail and wholesale green power marketers across the country.

The Environmental Resources Trust certifies renewable energy certificates (RECs) through its EcoPower certification program. Under EcoPower certification, RECs convey only the renewable energy attributes of renewable electricity and do not convey environmental benefits.

The Power Scorecard is a web-based information tool created by a coalition of environmental groups that lets consumers compare the environmental impacts of green power and conventional power products.

Selected Green Power Customers
Businesses and other non-residential customers such as municipalities and government agencies are increasingly recognizing that green power purchasing can help meet corporate or institutional goals related to environmental improvement and sustainability. Follow the link for a list of selected non-residential green power purchasers. The U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership has additional information on organizations purchasing green power.

"America is shifting to a 'green culture,' with more and more businesses understanding that environmental responsibility is everyone's responsibility, By switching to alternative, renewable power sources, PepsiCo is proving that going green can be the choice of every generation." --said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson

Green power is produced from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These energy sources are considered cleaner and have a superior environmental profile than conventional sources of electricity. Purchasing RECs helps drive the development of additional renewable energy capacity nationwide.

With some $30 trillion to be invested in energy production over the next 30 years, making the right low-carbon investments is one of the keys to fighting climate change. Carbon offsets help put a price on the climate change consequences of these investment decisions, and if properly structured can help move a portion of that $30 trillion investment into clean energy. While a lot of that investment will be in the developing world, some of it will be domestic. Demand for new power continues to rise in the US. It is our hope that carbon offsets can help new domestic energy be as clean as possible.

Building on the momentum of Step it Up series, Hilltrip is happy to invite the community to come to the sixth and final Step it Up event at MAXX FISH, nicely coordinated to happen on Earth Day. Celebrated every April 22, Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide. First launched as an environmental awareness event in the United States in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated as the birth of the environmental movement and is the only event celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities.

For Step it Up no6, Hilltrip is presenting an Expression Session including Kostaman & The Vibrations opening at 7pm sharp, followed by a slate of local artists including Angie Nolan with poems, MollyFi with spoken words, Daniel Poisson and Chris Dyer with visual art, Chili Thom & Feet Banks with “High in the Mountain”, Animal Nation with a few raps, John Parris with a few mixes and more.

At 10pm, the winners for the Earth Raffle will be draw. Everybody attending the Expression Session will have a chance to enter the raffle to win one of the grand prizes by writing their name at the back of a Step it Up flyer and dropping it off at the Surfrider table during the session. All the ballots collected trough the whole series will be included in the raffle, so people who entered at previous Step it Up sessions will have their chances to win. Prizes include a 3-day Surf Experience Expedition sponsored by Deep Snow & Surf Experience, an Option snowboard, a pair of SPY goggle, O’Neill goodies among other.

After 10pm, Rainbo and Lexi Moon will perform hula hoops go-go dances to the sound of DJ Jamie Vale.

Also on the sensory extravaganza menu is Martinis at Midnight offering the ‘Oxymoron’ martini, a martini with a healthy twist containing FrequenSea, a unique ‘Superfood’ discovery containing all of Mother Nature’s essential nutrients. This martini has so much good stuff in it that it will relieve all the guilt of consuming alcohol.

“There are so many good messages from artistic expressions; and art is also a powerful catalyst for change. This event is going to be Hilltrip’s 3rd Earth Day event in Whistler and I hope to inspire people to be part of the solutions and care for our planet thought different art forms” says Marie Fortin, event organizer. “April 22 is the last day of the TWSSF, so this last Step it Up event will be like a cleansing evening for the body and the soul and a great way to close the festival and the series in beauty.”

Admission is only $10 and includes a free Cool Tag from Clif Bar and a beer from Whistler Brewing Company. A Cool Tag™ is a renewable wind energy credit that will keep an estimated 300 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) — the main contributor to global warming — out of the air. That’s roughly the same as neutralizing the global warming emissions generated from traveling 300 miles (more than 480 kms) in the average car.

As with every Step it Up event, proceed will support the Snowrider Project, a campaign of the Surfrider Foundation, which aims to bring greater understanding of the hydrological cycle and foster a sense of stewardship towards alpine and valley watersheds. One major initiative for Snowrider is organizing local mountain clean-ups in spring after the snow melts to pick up garbage haphazardly littered during the season by skiers and boarders.

Thanks to Clif Bar, Whistler Brewing Company, O’Neill, Option Snowboards, Spy. Deep Snow & Surf Experience and Maxx Fish for their support on the Step it Up series.

See http://pembina.org/wind/ and read about their program convert the energy you use to power your laptop -whether at home or in your office- to WIND ENERGY.

How do they determine the energy you spend while you're using your computer?  Here is an excerpt from their site!  Read on!

How do we calculate the electricity use of your computer?

Laptop Computers: The average laptop computer consumes 30 watts of electricity. It is assumed that most people (80%) use their computers nine hours a day, five days a week for the year. It is also assumed that some people (20%) leave their computers on 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The total energy consumed in one year is:

30 W * [(2340 hr/yr)*80% + (8736 hr/yr)*20%)] = 110 kWh/yr

The average computer is expected to last three years before it is replaced with a new model. The total energy consumed over its three-year life span is 330 kWh or 0.33 MWh.

Desktop Computers: The average desktop computer consumes 120 watts of electricity. It is assumed that most people (75%) use their computers nine hours a day, five days a week for the year. It is also assumed that some people (25%) leave their computers on 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The total energy consumed in one year is:

120 W * [(2340 hr/yr)*75% + (8736 hr/yr)*25%)] = 473 kWh/yr

The average computer is expected to last three years before it is replaced with a new model. The total energy consumed over its three-year life span is 1400 kWh or 1.4 MWh.

For the past 5 years I have been travelling around trying to figure out what to do with my life and where i wanted to be.  I've done the soul searching, tried too many different jobs, and lived in too many different towns in too many different countries.  And finally, I think i have found it.  The true test is that no matter how crappy my job was, I still loved every minute of being in whistler!  The mountains outside the window, the lakes, the crazy nights, the lazy days, the people... everything about this town makes me happy.  And yesterday I had to say goodbye to that town, those mountains, and to all those great people.

It's one of those things... I know I can stay in whistler right now and i would be so much happier than if I went back to Ontario.  But logistically, it would be a nightmare.  I have so much unfinished business to take care of, and i need to make some more cash.  All that travelling wasn't cheep and i'm still paying for it. So that is why today i sit in Vancouver, hours away from a flight that will bring me back to Ontario.

It's funny how you can look for so long for something, then when you finally  find it, how everything just falls into place.  I am really sad to have had to leave.... but knowing that i will be back soon makes it bearable!  The move back to Whistler countdown has already started....

Ok so tonight i was going to see pirates of the carribean with sean and rob. On our way there we were smoking some weed out of a bowl, and we were following this boat in fron of us getting towed by some car for like 3 miles. so we come up to this intersection and as we start to stop we go around a slight curve, and we realize the car in front of us is a sherrif and hes the one thats been pulling the boat!! Sean and i are like oh f*ck rob put the bowl down..... the cop turns right, we crank it left and haul ass away from him.

So we head down to fulton, one of the more major roads in the area, and were smoking again and about a quarter mile ahead of us we spot another sherrif turning around in some business driveway, were like oh he must be after someone for speeding, and he crosses the merridian, and as we go by he pulls out behind us and starts to follow us. The three of us are like shi*t and we turn off on some road to let the cop go by. We take some back roads and we come back out to fulton, smoking again, and as we come around the corner the sherrif is there waiting for us, right as sean is hitting the bowl. We take off down fulton and he starts tailing us again, and we get up towards the firestation, and take off down another side road again to see if he follows.

He does, so we head down that road a little ways and he eventually turns his lights on and pulls sean over. Sean and i quick hide everything out of plain sight, because in michigan law says if its not in plain sight the cops cant search the car, so we hide everything and sean gets out all his info before we get puled over so we dont have to open anything up. The cop comes over and takes seans info, telling us that seans window tint is illegal. Sean plays dumb and the cop walks back to his cruiser. He comes back a minute later and takes my ID and robs ID too, and asks if we have any dope in the car. Seans like no we have nothing..... on second thought i do have a few un opened beers in here, so the cop takes a look at that stuff, but theres nothing illegal about it, so he lets it go, and asks about us having weed again. sean denies, and the cop says im lenient but i ont like being lied to.... so sean gave ina nd said he had maybe an eighth, when really we had maybe a half ounce.

So the cop takes sean out of the car and takes him back to the cruiser, and starts patting him down, puts him in the back of the cruiser, and starts interrogating him. Comes back about 10 minutes later, by this time robs crying in the backseat thinking his career is over and were going to get arrested. I'm like fack this sucks, and tells us to get out of the car. rob and i get out and the cop starts searching seans car.

Now seans car is a goldmine for any cop looking to get some punks into trouble. he had a fully packed bowl hiddenin there, a 5 inch illegal boot knife in the glove box, a bat, metal edged knunchucks, knives, lighters, rolling papers, etc, and the cop only found a few things, like a bat, lighters, rolling papers, and a couple other things. Nothing serious.

So the cop takes sean out of the cruiser, lines us all up, and asks us why he should think were all good guys. we start explaining our records and whatnot, so he gives the bag of weed back to sean, which sean and i thought he was like seriously giving the weed back to us, but then he says what are you guys going to do with this stuff? so we dump it out and he tells us to spread it out so he cant see anything, so we start kicking the grass all around and he tells us we all looked like a bunch of dancing indians.

The cop then lines us up again and tells us if were going to smoke, at least dont drive with it and smoke i while driving. do what we want at egypt valley(where sean and i work) or whatever, but not in the car, and then he let us go with warnings and we went to our movie.

Afterwards we drove home and smoked again once we got on backroads. Total morons, i know.

So i was at wendys monday after Kyle and i went golfing, and as i drove up to the building, i thought to myself, i think ill go through the drive through, because it is convenient, and speedy. And i was high as shi*t so i wanted a little human contact as possible. All i wanted were my chicken nuggets, jr bacon chee, my hot tasty french fries, and a mountain dew. As i ordered my mountain dew, the person that was running the drive through failed to say "would you like thta biggie sized?" now you may ask so what? just ask for it. well heres the thing. people are so used to having the question asked to them, i believe the human brain has been accustomed to the question "would you like it biggie sized?" so much that when they are not asked for the opportunity, they dont know to ask for it. they dont know..... they just dont know. now i ask myself what if i wanted my drink biggie sized? i was suddenly lost in perilous thoughts of what if? what if i wanted a biggie sized mountain dew? i was now forever lost for this one moment of wendys deliscious food with a biggie sized drink. I wouldnt want a small flacid large drink. i couldnt take that at all. that amount of liquid could not possibly satisfy the amount of food i had to the personal food/drink combo. you always need a certain amount to drink when you eat a certain amount of food. its like common unwirtten law. sometimes when your eating you short self some liquid refreshment, and then you have to go get more. sometimes you give yourself too much, and then your left at the dinner table with a clean plate and a drink still half full and you think to yourself f*ck now i cant get up because i didnt drink my MILK. why did i give myself so much?this isnt a social table, where we sit around and have drinks and talk. this is the dinner table with food... and other things. so then your stuck there and your looking at your overfull drink and your like "i dont want to chug that... thats too much.... and what if i drink it too fast? will everyone think i want to get away form them all? look at mom... shes only halfway done with her meatloaf.... and here i am completely finished. look at my little brother.... hes almost done... btu he has less milk... hes going to finish before me, and then he can excuse himself first. maybe i can get up with him and leave the table at the same time.
so i realized that the guy at the window at wendys made a grave error of not asking if i wanted it biggie sized, even though i didnt, and by the time i though of all that, i realized i was through the drive through, and i had forgot to ask for ketchup.

The Life and Times of Joe: Joe's Weekly Roundup
By: joe

Alright everyone, I might try and do this weekly if time permits. I'm going to post random things I've learned over the last week, a song I currently like, and more.

Joe's Song of the week - Who am I by the Peace Orchestra. Super mellow song, great to work to, or tune out for a few minutes. Thanks to SteveDUH for sending me a link to a cool touchscreen computer that had this song as the soundtrack.

Funny Video(s) of the week - For the designers out there, I give you "What if Microsoft redesigned the ipod packaging?" and for car enthusiasts, I give you the "Top Gear Season 7 review". Top Gear is my current favorite TV show out there, it's hilarious.

Joe's super-duper tech link of the week - Windows Live Local, pretty slick mapping software (currently only works in Seattle and San Francisco) that will not only show you an overhead view, but also let you look around from ground level. Check it out, it's cool.

Alright I'll post more next week! Until then, have fun and shred whenever you can!

Today was completely emotionally draining. And the funeral was only half of it.  It was so hard to be sitting there actually letting it sink in that Brody is really gone.  I talked to his fiance, we cried together, i held the baby and just thought how horrible the entire situation is.  I'm happy his fiance has promised that Regan (Brody's baby) will always be a part of our lives and we're welcome to see him anytime. It was also really hard being at the funeral when none of the family knew me.  I was a really good friend, but had only met brody's dad once before.. spending most of my time with his mom.  I really happy that Tony was there... especially since the hardest part of the day happened on the way to the funeral....

Driving to the funeral (2 hours out of town) we passed a car turned upside down in the ditch and in the deep snow.  There was another car stopped, and they were on cell phones and we could see the lights of the approaching cop car. So we kept going.  I thought that the situation was under control and that there was nothing I could do... my sisters had been looking out the window and didn't recognize anyone... there was just the guy on the phone that had his back turned.  Now if i hadn't been in my own little world, worrying about the funeral and trying to be carefull driving,  and if I had really taken a good look, i would have realized that the guy on the phone, who had just moments earlier dug himself out of the car, was Al... he was on the way to his funeral to be one of the pallbearers.  Al is also the closest guy friend I have. Him, Brody and I were the Sudbury trouble gang... Al learnt to snowboard so i'd have someone to drag to the hills. And Al was the one who had called me sunday to let me know about Brody.  He has been organizing everything from this end, and I had been asking him to not drive and to come with us, but he refused.  To think that I came so close to loosing another friend just finished me.  I have been crying on and off all day, and all I wanted was the boys to come over.  I just needed to see them all and make sure they were all okay.  Then I get bad news number three....

I just got off the phone with the boys.. they decided not to make the trip up from Ottawa becasue of the weather.  I am happy that I don't have to worry about them driving, but I am so sad that i don't get to see the 4 of them.  I need to see them, as it has been years since i have seen Travis, and although i have seen Kyle last week, and Scott and Andre over the summer.. it isn't enough.  It's horrible that something like this made us all realize how much we miss each other, but i'm happy that everyone tried their best to see each other, and i'm happy the guys have gotten used to me crying on the phone.  i don't know how i'm going to make it through this week, but I know that in time it'll all get better....

wow, i'm one sensitive chick.. i never realised it! haha
